Top 4 Actor Voices - TDC Blogathon: Mt. Rushmore Of Movies

M. Brown of Two Dollar Cinema has come up with his first ever blogathon, titled 'Mt. Rushmore Of Movies'. To put it simply, it is in honor of President's Day and in order to participate, all you have to is choose the top 4 of anything cinematic and explain why it should be carved into the side of a mountain forever.

So head over to his site if you too want to participate, and heck, even if you have no intention of joining, you still need to go over there. Because seriously, his site is the funniest movie blog that I know off. Try reading one of his reviews and I dare you to, at the very least, say that his reviews aren't unique.

I've picked "Top 4 Actor Voices" for my category. As usual, I'll give the same lame excuse of 'time being a luxury to me' for this blog entry being very brief.

#4 Liam Neeson

A very distinctive male voice. In Clash Of The Titans [2010] he delivered the line "Release The Kraken!!" with so much conviction, that it became the most memorable scene from that very dull movie. But it is his delivery of the world's most awesome phone monologue ever in Taken [2008] that sticks out the most to me. Sure, the dialogue played a big part. But if I was on the other side of the phone, I'd shit my pants hearing his voice. It is even more terrifying than hearing the "7 days until you die," speech from The Ring [2002].

#3 Samuel L. Jackson

Whether it is in Pulp Fiction [1994], Snakes On A Plane [2006], or even the recent RoboCop [2014] movie, listening to Lawrence Fishburne Sam Jackson going on a rant is just utter bliss.

#2 James Earl Jones

Darth Vader. End of argument.

But honestly though, check out the video below to see what it feels like if Jones' voice wasn't used. David Prowse was the guy under the Darth Vader suit, and well, he is just not James Earl Jones.

#1 Morgan Freeman

Go watch The Shawshank Redemption [1994] again and you'll realize why Morgan Freeman has the voice of God.

  1. I would love to see Vincent Price's name up there. We can even heard him in MJ's Thriller MV and Scooby Doo. Nobody should forget that legend tau~

    1. I'm a bit embarrassed to say this, but I had to go to the internet to find out who Vincent Price was and what he sounded like. Yikes!

You're right. He does have a very unique voice.

  2. Really cool idea for your entry! For me the ultimate voice is Alan Rickman but I love your choices here!

    1. Ah yeah, Alan Rickman! I was so much in a rush doing this, I didn't do proper thinking or research. Michael Clarke Duncan is another that just popped into my head. They actually should be in this.

  3. try and watch this one http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2294677/

  4. Oooohhh, controversy. I like it.

I actually really like all of your four picks and couldn't think of anyone better. But....then Sati drops Alan Rickman and I'm thinking, yeah, you gotta have Hans Gruber and Severus Snape on there...have to.

When I was reading this to a friend, he said, "I would have put George Clooney." He might be right, but your top 4 are too good....right?

    1. Alan Rickman really is a great choice!

Clooney was heavily considered when I made this. As was Scarlett Johanson... she was great in "Her". I also always loved how Audrey Hepburn talked.... but since this was only a top 4, those three didn't make it.

But if I were to re-write this list.... Rickman and Michael Clarke Duncan will feature. Unless of course someone else comments with another great voice.... darn, I'm screwed!!

  5. Great choices here Asrap, though I'm more fond of the voice of Samuel L. Jackson's *twin*, that is Laurence Fishburne.

I like Neeson's voice. I should've included that on my Top 10 Actors Voices list from a while back. Alan Rickman is KING though in that category, so is my other seasoned Brit favorite Timothy Dalton :D

    1. I think I missed your list.... I'll definitely check it out.

I initially put Laurence Fishburne's name next to Sam Jackson's as a joke. Especially considering the recent incident of the TV host mistaking the two on live TV! But the I realised, hey Laurence has a good voice too...

But I choose to stick with Sam, as I really do like hearing him speak...

    2. Here's my list Asrap http://wp.me/pxXPC-3CH

I'd have added Tom Hiddleston and Benedict Cumberbatch if I were to update my list. In fact, I just might do that one of these days!

    3. Thanks Ruth. Your's is a great list!

  6. Nice list. I was thinking about this topic recently for some reason or other that I don't remember. Definitely need Christopher Walken on there.

    1. Walken is another good one. He'll make my honorable mention.

  7. Great choices. I have to admit, though, I'd probably take out Samuel L. Jackson in favor of Vincent Price. Love your #1 given that I'm in the midst of "Morgan Freeman Week" on my blog.

    1. See Asrap. Vincent should be in this category (providing if this is a top ten category) It feels great having someone to back you up. He was good in The Howling series too.

    2. Haha.... he does have a good voice. I agree. But unfortunately this only allows 4 places and the competition is fierce :)

Wendell... interesting theme... I'll check out the Morgan Freeman week soon....

  8. Such a good idea for a list!! Honestly lately I have been loving Benedict Cumberbatch's voice!!

    Here is my Mount Rushmore

    1. Thanks Angela. Cumberbatch is a great choice. I need a bigger mountain it seems.

  9. This is a great list. Were I doing just four favorite actors, then Liam Neeson would most certainly be on my list! He's Mt. Rushmore material. My dad and I are going to see his new movie 'Non-Stop' tonight.

    1. Hi Mariah! As much as I like Liam Neeson, I think I'm gonna have to wait for 'Non-Stop' to come out on DVD. Time hasn't been kind to me lately, super-busy!

  10. Great picks! Morgan Freeman would be my #1 too. I love Alan Rickman and Denis Leary's voices as well, but this would've been hard to narrow down. I love all the ones you picked too.

    1. If I was to re-write this, Rickman will surely be in. Leary maybe if this was a top 10 or 15 as there are so many good ones. But Morgan Freeman would still be number one.

  11. I think it would have been nice to see an actual voice actor on this list rather than regular actors who have done some voice work, I could see someone like Crispin Freeman or John DiMaggio instead of Liam Neeson, but still a nice list and it's hard to argue the other three. it's interesting that half of this list is in the Lego Movie too.

    1. I did consider making this a voice acting category but actor's voices appealed to me more. In fact Lego Movie inspired me to do this in the first place!

  12. This was such a cool idea. Crowe would be #1 for me...since his voice is heavenly. These are some great picks though.

    1. This guy in Crowe. Children. Cover your eyes.

    2. Crowe's voice in the Man Of Steel trailer was the reason I saw it probably 50 times!

@m.brown: And oh, I just finished reading Fisti's post.... haha.. at least he's consistent
